NEW CRICKET FARM

This is my new cricket farm, since my last one was unsuccessful.
Unlike the last colony, these crickets are being housed in a 10 gallon tank. My last colony was housed in a giant tub. I believe that lack of air flow killed them.
Their substrate is sand.
In the tank there are three dishes. One is their food with vegetables on the top to gut load them (so they are healthier for my geckos), one is a water dish (a sponge with water), and the last is wet sand (for them to lay eggs in).
There is also a paper towel tube for them to hide in.

What is the definition of "gut load?"

How do you keep the sand clean? Replacement? Some way to clean it?
