Saying goodbye

Sadly, today, my oldest leopard gecko, Leo, died. He was atleast 15 years old. And i have had him for over 4 years.

He never had a good nutrition. For the (atleast) 12 years before i had him he was fed on crickets and pinky mice, never anything like mealworms and wax worms. He never had a very fat tail, and he was alwase housed on sand. Lately he just started to not be able to eat very well and started slowly losing weight.

NEW GECKO!!!

Today i bought a new gecko.
I was at a store buying some crickets and mealworms when i stumbled upon the most beautiful gecko.
I named her Bella which goes perfectly with her chocolate brown and yellow colors.
I noticed her belly hanging low, and even though she is kind of fat (lets say fed well), she seems pregnant.

Goodbye

Unfortunatley today, I lost my youngest member of the silverbrook geckos team.
Leah, the youngest gecko, passed away with a major impaction.
I have learned my lesson about sand, but it is too late.
The reason she died is because about two months ago, i had her on sand. with baby geckos, or any age of geckos, you should NEVER use sand as substrate.

UPDATED BREEDING ROOM

These are supply shelves.

These are mini habitats for newborn geckos... Each clutch (either 1 or 2 eggs) will be housed in an individual mini habitat for about 1 to 2 months before being ready to sell.

This is my incubator. I will incubate the eggs in this, and make them hatch.

NEW CRICKET FARM

This is my new cricket farm, since my last one was unsuccessful.
Unlike the last colony, these crickets are being housed in a 10 gallon tank. My last colony was housed in a giant tub. I believe that lack of air flow killed them.
Their substrate is sand.
In the tank there are three dishes. One is their food with vegetables on the top to gut load them (so they are healthier for my geckos), one is a water dish (a sponge with water), and the last is wet sand (for them to lay eggs in).
There is also a paper towel tube for them to hide in.

NEW MEMBER OF THE SILVERBROOKE GECKOS CREW

This is Sunnie
Sunnie is a Hypo leopard gecko.
I purchased Sunnie today from Pearce's.
Sunnie will be able to be breed in less than a year.
She is currently adapting to her new, but temporary, habitat of my quarintine tank.
In a month or two, after quarantining, she will be housed with Leah, my youngest gecko.

Researching 4

Today I researched how to house hatchling geckos.
I learned that I need to house the newborn geckos in a plastic shoebox.
Once they are old enough to sell (one - two months), I move them onto a (around 50-65 gallon) tank.

Researching 3

Today I researched how to incubate the gecko eggs.

I learned that i need Vermiculite, Perlite, or Reptile incubating medium to keep the eggs moist.
I found a simple, cheap, and well-working incubator.
I also learned that i need to keep the incubating medium moist, and put the eggs halfway down in the medium.

Researching 2

Today I researched about how to precondition Leopard Geckos.
Preconditioning is the changing of temperature and/or amount of time they have light.
This makes them aware that breeding season is about to occur.

I learned that I do not have to precondition Leopard Geckos for them to breed, but it can help.

Reasearching 1

Today I researched how to breed leopard geckos.

I learned how to house the geckos, and how to take care of gravid (pregnant) females.
I also learned how long it takes for the female to lay her eggs, and how long it takes for the eggs to hatch.

Original Two Geckos

Leah - I have had Leah for about 2 or 3 months now. She is a Bell Albino. I am going to breed her when she gets old enough.

Leo - I have had Leo for about 2 or 3 years now. I recieved him and his tank from a friend. Leo really sparked my interest in Leopard Geckos.
