We made and installed two single shelf systems. Both have no bottom tank (area for storage), and are five tanks high. We also have a very simple heating system.
The heating consists of one twenty-five watt bulb. The light bulb then heats the mat, which in turn heats the gecko.
We also plan to make a much shorter, yet wider system soon.

This shelf system is fantastic! My compliments to your carpenter. What a great set-up you have!
You wrote: " The light bulb then heats the mat, which in turn heats the gecko." What kind of mat is that? Is it special material that heats the mat and re-radiates it? How do you measure the temperature of the mat to make sure it does not burn the lizard's skin?
What are the dimensions of each cage unit? Are they equivalent to a 15 gallon aquarium?
The mat is simply paper towel... it s up like there is a heater under it.
